72 Hours in Bozeman

A long weekend guide to our favorite places to eat, explore, shop, and soak up Big Sky Country.

Welcome to Bozeman

Whether you're visiting for a wedding, planning a summer getaway, or simply curious about what life looks like in southwest Montana, Bozeman makes an excellent home base for a long weekend. Equal parts mountain town and vibrant downtown, it's a place where mornings begin with exceptional pastries, afternoons are spent floating rivers or hiking trails, and evenings end with mountain views and good food.

Here's how we'd spend 72 hours in Bozeman.

Thursday Evening | Arrive & Settle In

Ease into mountain time with dinner and drinks at MAP Brewing Co. Located just outside downtown, it's one of our favorite places to unwind after a day of travel. Grab a local beer, order dinner, and soak in the sweeping mountain views from the patio.

Looking for something a little more adventurous? During the summer months, Thursday nights mean Valley View Rodeo. From barrel racing to bull riding, it's a quintessential Montana experience and a fun way to kick off the weekend.

Friday | Adventure Day

Start your first full day at Wild Crumb, a beloved local bakery recently recognized by the James Beard Foundation. Arrive early, grab a pastry (or two), and pair it with coffee from nearby favorites Treeline Coffee Roasters or Roly Poly Coffee Co.

From there, choose your own Montana adventure.

For a true local experience, spend the day floating the Madison River. Madison River Tubing makes it easy, handling transportation and all the equipment so you can simply show up and enjoy the sunshine.

Looking for a different kind of adventure? Head up to Hyalite Canyon for the day. You can rent kayaks or paddleboards from Round House Sports, pack a picnic, or simply explore the scenic trails, waterfalls, and alpine views that make this area so special.

After a day outdoors, freshen up and head downtown for dinner. Two spots we always recommend are Blackbird for wood-fired pizza and seasonal dishes, or Little Star Diner for globally inspired, farm-to-table fare. If you can snag a seat on Little Star's rooftop patio, even better.

Saturday | Explore Historic Downtown

Spend your final full day getting acquainted with Bozeman's historic downtown.

Begin with brunch at Jam!, a local favorite known for its creative menu and vibrant atmosphere. If you're leaning into Montana's Western charm, The Western Café offers a classic cowboy-town breakfast experience.

Then, simply enjoy wandering Main Street. Part of the fun is popping in and out of locally owned bookstores, galleries, print shops, Western outfitters, and thoughtfully curated boutiques tucked throughout downtown. We may be biased, but we'd love to welcome you into Heyday to shop locally made treasures, Montana-inspired finds, and meaningful gifts from your time in Big Sky Country.

In the afternoon, stretch your legs with a walk or hike. Peets Hill is an easy favorite, offering incredible views of downtown and the surrounding mountain ranges almost immediately. If you're looking for a bit more elevation, The M or Drinking Horse Mountain are both less than 15 minutes from downtown and reward hikers with sweeping valley views.

For your last evening in town, celebrate Montana style with a steak dinner at J.W. Heist Steakhouse or Ted's Montana Grill.
